2009-03-05 Rochester NY Pizza Blog

Pizza Stop is a pizzeria with three locations in the Rochester area. Its first location in the Four Corners neighborhood downtown, since 2014 a few doors away from where it opened in the 1980s, has been a lunchtime favorite for many years. They opened their Greece shop on September 15, 2012. A third location opened in Pittsford Plaza on February 20, 2019.

There is a family relationship between Pizza Stop and another Rochester pizzeria, Joe's Brooklyn Pizza.

Additional history: A second location, Pizza Stop Penfield, HAD opened on Empire Boulevard in June of 2010, but since then, it is under separate ownership and management, and has NO affiliation whatsoever with the downtown location, and is currently known as Empire Pizza.

2009-04-17 16:20:48   I just want to make it loud and clear, although it has been mentioned several times above already, this place sells AUTHENTIC NEW YORK (CITY) STYLE NEOPOLITAN PIZZA (and the sicilian looks similar to what you'd get in NYC or Philly, also). This is the best slice of pizza I've had in Rochester, and I'm extremely pleased that the wiki helped me find it. After trying all of the local "Rochester Style" pizza places that often get good reviews, I was despondent that I'd never have a good slice of pizza again as long as I lived here. If you grew up in Downstate NY, New Jersey, or Southeastern PA, and wonder if you'll ever have a real slice of pizza again, look no farther than Pizza Stop. —ErikReinert

2010-08-06 16:07:28   Was there today (Awesome as usual!!), and just want to let people know there is a sign posted that due to ongoing construction in their building, they will be closed from 8/16 to 9/16? (maybe someone can verify those dates). I can't wait to try their second location in Penfield, now I have an excuse :-) —NoBS

2010-12-20 12:57:12   I have eaten here many times..while I like it...I can't agree it's the best in Rochester... years ago,when I worked Downtown, I ate at the Original location (it reminded me of Pizza back home(LI/NY)
But over the last 5/6 months..I've been to the Penfield location about 8 times... i thought the dough was a little bit thicker.. —Ikiwcor

2011-02-25 21:13:18   Outstanding pizza, especially the Sicilian, but the Neapolitan also. This is how it is made on Long Island, although the owner said the recipe and technique comes from Brooklyn. The wings weren't that great unfortunately, but every time I got pizza here it has been outstanding.

2011-07-03 12:13:44   This place was AMAZING! It really is the best pizza in ROC. Walking into the shop, I was transported back home to the Bronx. The atmosphere was very downstate. The pizza was outstanding: great cheese and sauce...and the crust was terrific. It passed the folding test: when folded in half the crust cracked down the middle! I can't believe I spent all these years here without eating at The Pizza Stop. —walternmoss

2012-06-13 21:38:47   I believed the hype, and ended up being let down. Pizza stop has a VERY solid slice, like a 7.5/10, but it is NOT the best pizza in Rochester. The atmosphere is awesomely downstate though with the, what could be seen by some as rudeness. I'd go back, but it's horribly overpriced. —sub619
